Josh and Gemma the Second Time Around by Sarah Ready
5.0
Thank you to Social Butterfly PR for the arc in exchange for an honest review!
I have a lot of thoughts, and I'm not sure if I can put them into words, but I'm gonna try.
First of all, when I got this book on my kindle, I knew I had to read the first book to fully appreciate them. And [b:Josh and Gemma Make a Baby|59796297|Josh and Gemma Make a Baby|Sarah Ready|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1639176336l/59796297._SX50_.jpg|93060005] was such a fun read! This one was no different. I knew immediately it was going to be a 5-star read. I read romance for feel-good, goofy feelings. And as much as this one had that, it also had that gut-wrenching, edge of your seat feeling, which, for me, is something I love in books, if done correctly. And this was done correctly.
Not only do I love a good second-chance romance, this was the kind of second-chance romance that I was immediately rooting for. It was like watching two people fall in love for the first time again, with all the ups and downs that come with it. Watching Josh & Gemma grapple with old feelings and new life experiences was so heart-wrenchingly beautiful, it was so hard to look away.
I read this book in the morning before work, on my lunch break, and as soon as I got home, just itching to find out what happened next. When I reached the end, I was shocked to find myself sad - I never wanted it to end. And to me, that makes an excellentbook. More than a five-star. It's like a ten.
There were so many things that I loved about this book, but I'm just going to pick a couple. First, I loved that the "villian" of book one got a redemption. I loved that he was humanized (is that a word??) and that I felt something for him.
Secondly, I loved Gemma's story. I know that's broad, and the book was big enough that it was a big story, but I loved how you watched Gemma make mistakes, and deal with things out of her control. And I absolutely adored the way panic was portrayed in this book. Because it is the way that it's described in Gemma's point of view. For me, and I'm sure many others, it feels like you're somewhere else, and it's devouring. And the way it felt so humanized, so normal to deal with, made my heart grow.
If you haven't picked up this book, or the one before, I suggest that you do.
