Juliet made me feel seen as a baby gay. I always knew I was attracted to women and men, but it wasn’t until my fiancé and I got together that I was confident even to live and just be myself. I find myself still being concerned that I don’t say the right things or know everything I should as a black queer woman. I’m still learning and loving on myself as I go. Juliet had to go through some things to really find her understanding and find people to really love on her for who she is, and learned some cool historical facts along the way.

You know… Synovi is a very complex character who I really liked at the beginning. He had some shakey moments where I didn’t agree with some of his choices but overall I can respect his hustle and his growth. BriAnn really throw a curveball with that plot twist. I like Torin’s fiesty self, but Jade and the husband… chilee. I ate this audiobook up in one day! I was so deep into the story then I looked down and I was 51% done.. definitely reading more BriAnn

I think some of the story was a little slow. We did see some conflict in the first half but I feel like the story didn’t pick up until about 35-40%. I liked that this was a YA bisexual romance with no spice. There was hinting as yearning like how a teen has a very strong crush but overall no spice so I was happy about that. Themes of racism, classism, faith/religion, and morality are discussed. I wouldn’t call this HEA at all because it showed some things anre inevitable but it could be an important part of the story and how things will play out in the future. I’d  highly suggest listening to the history notes and author’s note at the end. It gives a little more insight on everything discussed.
