Dr. Lucas Goode is an English professor who is ready to do more with his career than teach uninterested students at his local university. When he finds out he's a finalist for an amazing opportunity, he's beyond ecstatic. He plans to nail his interview process and make it through the semester so he can start the next chapter of his life. But his plans for an easy semester quickly change when Sadie Green, a student in his class, gets pregnant and needs help. Soon Luke finds himself offering his home to her and agreeing to provide her guidance and discipline. One discipline session into their new dynamic and Luke's world is forever changed because there's no way he can walk away from Sadie.
I had fun with this story. The chemistry between Sadie and Luke was felt early on and it never let up. I liked the push and pull between them, especially on New Year's Eve. The tension was palpable. It felt authentic to how a dynamic like theirs would work in the real world. I thought Luke was so sweet about the baby and Sadie. When he told her how proud he was of her, I melted.
I thought the spice was good. I love the professor/student trope, especially when it's mixed with a Dom/sub dynamic. It's just so π₯΅ I will say I struggled with Sadie as a brat, but mostly because in the spicy sense, being a brat is not my energy. Acting out, so you get punished, to then get rewarded, sounds like a lot of work π Reward me for listening, please and thank you. Now outside of spicy moments, I am a brat, especially to men π
One thing I didn't love is that Luke had to give up his dream job for Sadie. I get that things can change when you meet your person, but I felt like he gave up a lot and she didn't necessarily have to give anything up or compromise. I wish they could've found a way to make his dream come true while being together and starting their family. I just think he might resent her later down the line for "making him" give up his dream.
I'll be interested to see if someone we met towards the end is the love interest for the final book π
Thank you to Sara for the early copy!
