Malachi is a broody vampire who is ready to find his mate. He goes to the Creature Cafe to get help from the Barista. He's in for a surprise when the Barista pairs him with Leo, a student, from his college class, who is a human. They start a secret relationship that becomes more when they realize they're fated mates and meant to be together forever.

I'm someone who's introduction to Clio as an author was through the first eleven books of the Creature Cafe series. I've been a big fan of hers since I read those books and have read everything she's written, even her contemporary romance book. I was excited when she announced an expansion of this series, however, I was disappointed with this book.

My biggest issue with this book was the writing style felt off from Clio. It felt like it was missing the usual magic Clio has in their books. There were so many ellipsis used throughout this book that I lost count. I was frustrated because I didn't understand why so many were used. I didn't buy their relationship or connection, which I contribute to the writing falling flat with this story.

Thank you to Clio for the early copy.

Series: The Brightest Light #2

⚠️Check triggers⚠️

When Maddie injures her ankle during a ballet audition, her world is turned upside down. She's referred to a physical therapist with hopes of a quick recovery so she can dance again. Maddie knew physical therapy would be hard, but she wasn't expecting her doctor, James, to be grumpy and oh-so-hot. Now Maddie isn't just focused on healing, but also making sure she doesn't fall for her doctor. That proves to be harder than she thought when she realizes he's falling for her, too.

The Brightest Light of Sunshine, book one in this series, was one of my top reads of 2023. I was, and still am, obsessed with Cal. When I found out Maddie, Cal's sister, was getting a book, I was so excited. Unfortunately, I was let down by this book.

The story had promise, especially with the doctor and patient dynamic between Maddie and James. The problem is that the story fell flat, and the plot was kind of boring. The pacing of the story was off, and it felt disconnected. The forbidden feeling had so much promise, but it flopped because there was no pull or tension between them.

Something about Lisina's writing style was off with this book, which I wasn't expecting since the previous book was her debut and was done well. I'm hoping with book three that we see her return to the style in book one. I think that was a solid debut, and I'd love to see her continue to build off that style. I'm very excited to read about Cal's daughter falling in love.

Thank you to Lisina Cooney for the early copy.

Series: The Whitlock Family #3

⚠️Check triggers⚠️

When a contract with the largest school lunch distributor arises, Charlotte Sullivan leaps at the opportunity to win it for her family's farm. The only problem is she's not the only farm in the running for the contract. Her neighbor, and enemy, Rowan Whitlock, is also up for the contract. Ever since he broke her sister's heart, Charlotte has wanted nothing to do with him, but is forced to be around him on a trip with mutual friends. When the weather takes a turn, they're forced to shelter together until the storm is over and hate quickly turns to lust. Things were supposed to stay in the cabin once they left, but they can't stay away from one another.

This is hands down my favorite book in the series so far. I devoured this story and could not get enough of these two. Enemies to lovers meets great banter will always be a favorite of mine. I loved the tension between Charlotte and Rowan. It added to their banter and made for some explosive spicy scenes.

I really loved how they went from enemies/rivals to being in love. I loved that we got to watch how they fell for each other and how it made them each change for the better. I was SO happy to see Charlotte tell off her wretched sister. I hated her so much. Rowan melted my heart with the ways he kept showing up for Charlotte and kept doing things to make her life easier. To be loved is to be seen, and boy does Rowan Whitlock see Charlotte and love her deeply.

Thank you to Corinne and Valentine PR for the early copy!
