What I Thought Was True by Huntley Fitzpatrick

DNF'd at page 68.....

I honestly just could not get into this book, I loved My Life Next Door but for some reason I just couldn't connect to the main character and the writing felt forced. And If I am being honest then I doubt I've missed very much since it doesn't have the best reviews ever. But thanks the Electric Monkey for sending me it to review.

Such a cute short story! I never really disliked Lila in Pushing the Limits but it was so great to see a short story with her as the main character, she's brilliant. I loved her and Lincoln together so much.

One of my favourite things about this series is the perfect blend between high end mystery and sultry, sexy romance. It's dramatic and always leaves you wanting more, however, there are some things that I can't get over and that is the predictability of the mystery, I guessed it all within 100 pages of the book and that's not what I want. But Noelle is a bitch and her relationships with those around her are everything to me!

Tied Bond is where things started going downhill for me. I love the characters of Noelle and Drake and Noelle's crazy, fucked up family but the series following just Noelle and Drake is a little tiresome. I want Bek's story, as well as Brody's and I just don't think we'll be getting that.

Sometimes a good thing can be dragged out (aka Cassandra Clare and her Shadowhunters series) but in this case it doesn't work.

By the time I got to this book, I was entirely bored. Book 2 and 3 follow the same themes as book 1 and not only that but they're all incredibly similar. Guy gets obsessed with girl, girl is a Jesus freak who loves guy but loves Jesus as well, things get fucked up by same rival gang and Jesus freak girl ends up with fucked up, possessive guy.

B O R I N G !

I won't be continuing with this series, sadly.

Tethered Bond is most certainly the better book out of the series so far, it was light and entertaining while still keeping it's suspenseful mystery. In fact, I felt this one to be more thought out and I loved the 'who dunnit?' feeling I got while trying to figure out what was going on.

Is this series perfect? By all means, no. But they're entertaining reads that are perfect when you want something that isn't to your usual taste in genre.

There's no doubt that this book is way over the top with the themes bit it's enjoyable for what it is, which is a steamy, dark New Adult romance that focuses around the lives of a MC. The characters were flawed but likeable and the writing was pretty decent despite the editing errors that I caught onto. Would I say 'It Ain't Me, Babe' is one of the best NA romances I've read? No. But despite that it's an enjoyable read and hard to put down once started.

First off, I have to say that the cover and illustrations are absolutely gorgeous. The first novellas titled The Queen tells Amberly's story when she was in the Selection process and I honestly thought she was treated like a dog. Prince Clarkson could have told her to kill herself and she would have. She was completely stupid and actually more naïve than America and Eadlyn (I know right? How the hell does that happen?)

I read The Prince and The Guard a few weeks back and really loved Maxon's story. In fact I wanted more of it because Maxon is a guy for everyone. He's strong, sweet, kind, loyal and handsome. Anything with more Maxon is a good thing. The Guard, however, was just not good. It rehashed Aspen's and America's story and I didn't appreciate that. I wanted Aspen and Lucy's story.

The last proper novella followed Marlee, The Favourite. And I loved it so much. Seeing Marlee's present (just before the caning took place) and past (when she first met Carter) story was perfect in every way. And I couldn't have wanted more.

We then have a few scenes from Celeste's POV and a chapter from Lucy, America's maid who later falls in love with Aspen. I loved them both, definitely preferred Celeste's part since I've always loved her. She was a horrible Bitch who was misunderstood.

Overall, this book bind up of Novellas was pretty much perfect.

I had heard such fantastic things about this book, so I think I over-hyped it for myself. The characters were great but I couldn't help but find the book to be really cheesy. I was continuously eye rolling at Garrett. He came across as a player at first but he could write a book called 'Chessy Pick Up Lines to Get Yourself a Girlfriend.'

I will continue with the series because they're quick, easy reads. And a total guilty pleasure.
When You're Back by Abbi Glines

I'm just going to sit here and pretend that Abbi didn't write this because it was a huge hot mess. I honestly didn't think it'd be so terrible but Abbi Glines really did not need to write this book. When I'm Gone ended nicely enough to be a standalone.

I had so many problems with this entire novel. First off, Reese is a woman who was sexually abused as a child and hates intimacy. She's has sex one (in When I'm Gone) and then all of a sudden she has no fears and loves sex. Abbi Glines is normally pretty dramatic but I guess she's also incredibly lazy in not researching.

Ugh!
