It only took me a year to finally finish the book and as always I feel like I need to dive right into the next one. Jordan knew how to end a book, he just loses you in the minutiae along the way sometimes.
I really liked the last 1/3 of the book and I’m excited to see where things go. It finally feels like we’re actually getting somewhere with the story.

A bit of a slow burn. It took a bit for me to get into the book, but after I got over the halfway point I didn’t want to put the book down! There weren’t any big reveals that were shocking imo, there’s a twist at the end that I didn’t expect but it also isn’t really a big part of the story.
This one makes brings up some ethical questions to explore as well.
Very atmospheric. A great wintery locked room mystery to help pass the time while you’re curled up somewhere warm on a snowy day.

This was a WILD ride. All the toxic domestic vibes, so if you love domestic suspense/thrillers I think you’ll love this. It has all the applicable tropes for the genre.
I don’t think I liked any of the characters in the book and there’s one in particular I kept hoping would meet an untimely end. And usually when I don’t like any of the characters it’s hard for me to stay interested in the story but with this one, I kept second guessing what was actually going on and needed to find out the truth. The short chapters and multiple POVs kept the story moving along at a fast pace.
There were a few plot points I guessed and thought predictable. Others that I thought were unnecessary to the overall storyline. And one I didn’t expect until it started playing out.
Arguably my favorite Shari Lapena so far. I’ve now read all of her published book so far and can’t wait to read her next book!

Shari Lapena is my go-to, Popcorn Thriller Queen.
This probably would have been a 4 star read for me but it was a little too far fetched and it felt like the ending was a bit abrupt.
I still enjoyed the story and didn’t want to put the book down.
It’s about a little girl that goes missing and all the drama that unfolds with that. It’s a small town with a lot of gossip and it really does seem like Everyone Here is Lying so you don’t know who to believe. It’s told from multiple POVs with short chapters so the story flies by.
If you enjoy domestic suspense and have loved Shari Lapena’s other books you’ll definitely want to pick this one up!

I stayed up way too late to finish this book last night.
I loved the setting: a gothic estate in the Blue Ridge mountains of North Carolina. You know it’s gonna be toxic when money, a palatial estate, and bitter family members are involved, especially when the Heiress’s heir is adopted.
The story moves along really fast. It’s told through the POV of Jules and Camden with some mixed media thrown in of letters and newspaper articles; however, I did drop it down in stars because I thought there wasn’t a great separating in character voice.
It didn’t really feel like much of a mystery, it kind of tells you what’s going to happen along the way so you’re not really left to guess anything. There is a bit of a bigger reveal but I already kind of suspected something like that so I wasn’t really shocked when it was revealed.
Despite that, the book is still really entertaining and I love that it’s got a little teaser from The Villa in there too. If you loved Rachel Hawkins’ other books, you’re going to love this one!

This was a great Christmas thriller!
I did figure out the main twists so I wasn’t really shocked by anything but I still really enjoyed the story and want to read more Christmas thrillers like this next year!
Definitely add this one to your holiday TBR next season

DID NOT FINISH

I couldn’t get past the names of the characters: winter snow, Henry harmless, the twins Abby and Gabby. I’m sure there’s more. It honestly felt like a book I wrote in middle school with characters I named Kerry Yoki and Terry Yaki.
It was a DNF befor the first 10% of the book had been read.

All of the stars. This book was perfection.
I loved it so much. I think it was my favorite read of 2023.
This was my second Adrienne Young book, Spells for Forgetting was my first (which I also loved), and she has easily become an auto-buy author and I’m eagerly looking forward to reading her other books.
Her prose is some of the most beautiful, atmospheric writing I’ve ever read.
This book feels like a breezy summer’s day at the golden hour. I can’t really explain it. I already know I’m going to have the biggest book hangover from this one.

f you’re looking for a Hallmark Christmas romance, look no further!
I loved this story. It’s a bit of a slow burn, but the payoff is worth it.
The ending felt a bit rushed (but aren’t all of these Hallmark Christmas style stories?), and I could have done without the epilogue, but it checked all the holiday romance boxes and I recommend it to anyone that’s looking for a heartwarming holiday romance.
