Jemisin always knows how to gut me!! Was concerned at the start with all the new characters and catching back up to speed but I needn't have been. She's a master.

Erdrich is just a master. So interesting to read this quite soon after The Sentence, the roots of that book are really apparent here.

After reading Man Ray's Self Portrait, I craved more knowledge on Kiki that would do her justice so I was excited to pick this up! It's definitely presented a much more detailed vision on her, both in her relationship with Man Ray but also as an artist and performer in her own right. To back up this final point, I wish there had been more descriptions of her artwork and that more had been included in the photo section so I could get a better sense of her art. I also wish that her life after Man Ray had been more detailed, but I wonder if that is due to less sources and info available? Regardless, I've enjoyed getting a much better understanding of Kiki!

Some parts of this have left me thinking quite deeply about my life and how I could incorporate more of Aristotle's philosophy in a way that would enrich me, but other parts fall a bit too hard into pop psychology and contemporary references (e.g. very brief summaries of films, "how to channel Aristotle when writing your CV" etc etc). But I do hope to take the best of this away and make some solid strides!
