i know there's a whole bit in book where kvothe explains to the chronicler why he didn't want to go through and talk about the trail, but it felt SO jarring as a reader. we'd just spent almost 50 chapters of him talking about the minutiae of his life and the university and how many shirts he owns and precisely how much cash he has in his wallet, but he won't even cover in less detail the events of the trial? idk. it felt like the author didn't want to have to invent and explain the court system, or was just lazy, or hadn't actually got that far in his planning by the time it came round to writing it. and considering how fucking drawn out and LONG the rest of the book is, if he didn't include the trial for brevity, couldn't he have cut down a few of the hundreds of pages that don't contain any plot nor character development???? i also have to say i skipped every part in this & the previous book that were the retellings of folk stories, and lost nothing of the actual plot of the book. who cares bro.

THAT BEING SAID, kvothe is a good character. well developed. he grows tangibly and acts believably - frustrating! irritating! want to grab him by the shoulders! but he's 16/17 so it works. the women however? ohhh boy. incredibly two dimensional, and flat.

lady lackless is kvothes mums sister 10000%

β€œAgain, his blank expression and refusal to make eye contact were the main problems. How could I make intelligent conversation with a person when I had no idea how he felt?” okayyyyy ableism ! literally this whole section irritated me. autistic ppl r just chilling

also bast is so fucking annoying dude shut the fuck up 😭😭😭😭

anyway, good book. slow in places, weird pacing, bit too much emphasis on how much pussy the 16 year old was getting & when & how often & how good he was at it. its a shame this story is never going to be finished bc id quite like to see where its leading bc as of right now it kind of feels like its not going anywhere? its just happening

interesting start. weird pacing but i guess that's to be expected? also kind of predictable. i think i was more Interested in the start of the book, before the Storytelling starts lol i liked the mystery and the intrigue b4 it took us into "gifted student at a magic school". that being said the magic system + world building seems fun, albeit a little convoluted and poorly explained
