Forever Princess by Meg Cabot

Sigh, this was exactly the kind of resolution I was hoping for from the last Princess Diaries book. A perfect fun light read.
Every Little Thing in the World by Nina de Gramont

Let's see. I liked this, but not as much as I thought I might. I was hoping it would be more about the wilderness/camp aspect, but it... wasn't. Which isn't to fault the author, since that clearly wasn't what she chose to focus on. I liked the Breakfast Club-y character mix. I liked Sydney's dilemma and Natalia's dilemma and Sydney's realization that their problems were separate. I liked the decision making and I was happy with the decision Syndey ultimately made.
But, if you only want to read one new-ish YA girl book, I'd say go for The Sky is Everywhere over this. If you want to read two, you can throw in this one.

Cookin' with Coolio: 5 Star Meals at a 1 Star Price by Coolio

This was a featured book at the library so obviously I snatched it up. Most of the recipes in this are meat-laden, and the few vegetarian recipes are pretty weaksauce (veggie stir fry, chili). But whatever, this is the funniest cookbook I've ever read. All cookbooks should measure their spices in dime bags and nickel bags, amiright? So, not really a kitchen staple for me, but definitely worth getting from the library. And I could see it being a useful cookbook for an omnivorous beginning cook.
Astonishing X-Men, Volume 3: Torn by Joss Whedon

I love the way the characters are written, and there are a lot of good LOL moments. Especially from Wolverine. Joss Whedon should write a Wolverine book. Like right now. I kind of hate it whenever the X-Men get involved with outer space shit, though. Stay on earth and have political discussions please.
The Good Times are Killing Me by Lynda Barry

(I'm calling this a graphic novel but it's not comics, but there are a lot of paintings in it. IDK. The paintings are like their own story. I like them.) I liked this book. It has a really authentic child's voice, dealing with racism & gentrification & such in a genuinely childlike way. And it's funny. Yays.
Uglies by Scott Westerfeld

This was way better than I thought it would be, honestly. Very compelling, quick read. I blew through it one day and had to immediately go back to the library for [b:Pretties|24768|Pretties (Uglies, #2)|Scott Westerfeld|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1255574780s/24768.jpg|1568076].
Batman: Cacophony by Kevin Smith

My favorite part was the Joker reading the Fountainhead in Arkham. Also the conversation Batman has with Joker at the end was pretty good.
Batman: The Widening Gyre by Kevin Smith

I really dug this. I like Batman movies, but I haven't read too many of the comics. I understand Kev Smith got a fair amount of flak for writing "un-Batman-ish" comics, but I loved this. It had a really good dash of Kevin Smith humor (which I know isn't for everyone, but which I really enjoy) and a genuinely surprising/scary twist (no spoilerzzzz). Oh, and you should read [b:Batman: Cacophony|6185966|Batman Cacophony|Kevin Smith|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1255571784s/6185966.jpg|6366242] first, if you're going to read this.
Von Wahrheit, Schönheit und Ziegenkäse by Megan Frazer Blakemore

I really enjoyed this. I really liked Frazer's treatment of Dara's weight. It rang true for me and I found her easy to relate to, whereas a lot of big girl YA characters are just like "I EAT MY FEEEELINGS" or whatever. Dara was more, like, regular. In retrospect, the long-lost-sister and utopian goat farm are kind of implausible, but I never really questioned it while I was reading it. It was a fun read and it all seemed to make sense. I liked the little mystery element, too. A good, fun read.
