An absolutely beautiful story about the adventures of a young boy in the American south in the 60's. Like a literary Wonder Years with a sprinkle of magic thrown in. The prose with which McCammon recounts the wonder, mystery and fleeting nature of youth is nothing short of breathtaking, making me well up with tears more than once. Anyone who ever played, rode a bike or loved a dog should read this absolute joy of a novel.
