84, Charing Cross Road by Helene Hanff

I really liked reading through these letters. There is no overbearing drama or really any unexpected things happening. But I could put this book down because it portrayed a beautiful friendship forming over many years and the simplicity of daily life and love for books was enough to keep me gratified.

I really enjoyed all the stories and methods of deduction. I loved that I got so many Holmes stories in one book and with a quick ending. The only reason I can't give it 5 stars is that a few stories ended abruptly, without proper justice or explanation. But all the stories were very engaging to read.

3.5 ⭐ I enjoyed all the stories in the book but I have to rate it lower because the first half of the book had too many unresolved or unsatisfactory endings. I feel like the author was done with Holmes stories at this point and was building to **spoiler** the death so he didn't have to write them anymore. Although the second half has compelling stories the first half really annoys me.

It deviates far too much from the first books plot and completely disregards the world of mages that we love. It took me months to read this because I needed time between chapters to tamp down my disappointment. I love Simon and Baz's relationship and this books successfully ruins that for me. I hope the next one isn't as different from Carry On.
