I read this back when I was 14 and loved it, so picked it up again and while it is a fun/nostalgic read for me, the characters are a bit messy and indecisive, and the King is petulant. But I still enjoyed it, even if I got frustrated with the back and forth ‘I want Maxon, I don’t want Maxon / I want Aspen again, I don’t want Aspen again’
Love the maids though, and the storyline’s easy to follow which I love, especially when I’m tired and struggle to focus
Felt like there was an unnecessary amount of setting description. Half of the setting was described so in-depth for it to only be mentioned/used/touched on very briefly, never spoken of again, or didn’t matter/affect the plot at all. Without all the unnecessary descriptions (which is ended up skimming past), the book and the plot were entertaining start to finish. The ending left me a bit disappointed, however I have t read the short stories which apparently give more insight to the future, or so I have been told.
