This is a fun, comedy Isekai that is deliberately over-the-top, trope-heavy, and occasionally just plain silly. I first enjoyed the anime so decided to sell out the manga. They both work because the main character is genuinely very likeable and even the smaller characters tend to be entertaining. I didn't find myself laughing out loud at any point in this first volume, but it did put a smile on my face.

I adored this book. I read it in under half a day and did not want to put it down.

It's the first book in a trilogy and it's honestly the slowest of slow burn romances. I love the first person perspective (I do have my suspicions about certain things the POV character may be unaware of...?) and I really liked both the main characters and their growing connection. There were also several side characters who interested me and I'm hoping that they have a greater role in the sequels.

The fantasy elements were also great to read. The magic system is interesting and unusual, I don't think I've read anything quite like it before. There were also hints of interesting politics and cultural aspects which I would love to see expanded on further.

Honestly my only complaint right now is that the sequel isn't out yet - I really want to read it.
