Plot or Character Driven: A mix

A brilliant, scathing piece on the deplorable conditions of the poor, in particular, the orphans of England. The narrator's savage irony paints a vivid picture of the callousness and brutality of those who are supposedly responsible for taking care of the unfortunate. Dickens does resort a bit to a soap opera scene when bringing about a happy ending for his protagonists but his depiction of the fate of Nancy, Sikes and Fagin is awe-inspiring.

slow-paced

It's a coming of age immigrant tale. There were glimpses of good writing but overall it was  pretty bare bones
informative inspiring reflective medium-paced

A great antidote to all the productivity mantras out there. The Afterword spoke to me.

Quite enjoyable! Sayers has a storehouse of knowledge and the catch in this story is not that it is a whodunnit but that it's a how-dunnit!
informative reflective medium-paced

This book changed my perception so drastically - I'm truly grateful for learning so much about the literature before Austen's time and especially about the women writers who shaped Austen's writing and who have been sadly forgotten.

Reminds me of Ishiguro's style. The narrative is slow and relaxed with things gently unfolding. Don't expect any actual shockers or any exciting events - it is simply a diary of a young girl.

A rather convoluted story going back and forth again and again with a final unsatisfying solution. Definitely a step down from the brilliant Strong Poison.

My first Dorothy Sayer's read - very delightful whodunit with a splash of Wodehouse. Looking forward to reading more of her works

Plot or Character Driven: Plot

Brilliant murder mystery with a great plot.

I should mention that the narrator for this story was not the appropriate choice - it should have been a younger man since that was the first person narrator of the story. The elderly lady who narrated was didn't have a a good voice range and her slow intonation didn't match the tone of the story!
