It was obviously an unsatisfactory ending though inevitable. I felt that there could have been a better wrap up.

Well written. The wrap up was predictable so I wouldn't put this in a great book category. Relaxing reading when you want something light.

The prose is good but the story was very bleak. It was a very stark piece, with nothing of real interest, perhaps purposefully made so. Overall, not something I would wish to read again.

The story focuses on dialogue and events and is medium to fast paced. The tone is melancholy and the story overall is one of hopelessness and desperation. It is well written and I would recommend it to someone wanting to read Edith Wharton.

Understood that it is a very sad, dark piece. I hope to read it at a later time, but for now, there are far too many better books to read
