Early Austen writing and you can see the wit and the sharp acerbic quality. But the story itself is simple and I'm not fond of the epistolary style.
Found it very insipid and I can't be bothered reading a whole series of this

Steinbeck's writing is powerful. The violence of the animal deaths really got to me though.

I notice that, similar to Foster, Keegan leaves the novel inconclusive; she prefers not to wrap up what appears is inevitable to happen. She implies but then shys away from giving us the ending.

Well written. The wrap up was predictable so I wouldn't put this in a great book category. Relaxing reading when you want something light.
