On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century by Timothy Snyder

Snyder provides an easily digestible list of actions and characteristics people can take on in the fight against authoritarianism, but I cannot help but notice that none of the lessons of tyranny in the 20th century are attributed to the United States, which has been propping up dictators all over the globe. While there is much wisdom in Snyder's words and advice, his bias and blind spots are obvious to anyone who has studied antidemocratic moments outside of the realm of Nazism and the Soviet Union, and his refusal to name any United States president directly betrays a lack of conviction in either the author or the publisher.
