Another Intense addition to the Underland Chronicles. Gregor finds himself caught up again in the war between humans & rats, asking and trying to answer the question of ‘who is on the right/good side.’ The answer is never a simple one. Collins does a fantastic job of introducing and developing complex characters, as well as explaining this topic to young readers. Like in Game of Thrones, no character is sacred in the turbulent times of war & I have unfortunately become so deeply attached to each one that I am nervous to finish the rest of the series.

It’s so much fun to rediscover the fictional world that Suzanne Collin’s created for this book series. I feel like I am reconnecting with some of my closest childhood friends as I reread this series. I had completely forgotten about Ripred the Rat, one my first favorite morally gray fictional characters!!!

This was my favorite series as a kid & I am delighted to find that it holds up 15 years later. It’s also a lot darker and more violent than I remember it being. I Love the plot twist in this second book & am looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
