I quickly fell in love with this series. I really enjoy how it actually teaches you about boxing. There are pages dedicated to demonstrating or explaining how a technique, style, or rules work. I checked online, thinking that these techniques were designed specifically for the comic, but was surprised to find that they're real. I'm learning about boxing right alongside Ippo!
Battle Angel Alita Vol. 1 by Yukito Kishiro

The story is fairly simple, yet shrouded in mystery which leads me to want to pick up the next volume and unravel the truth behind Alita’s past. I love the detail in the description of how things work and how kishiro likens them to real world machinery. I love the art. I love the energy in each panel and the intricacy of the cybernetics, yet the art isn’t chaotic and is easy to understand.

The copy I read was missing a lot of pages. A full copy probably doesn't exist anymore. It was exciting to read the first comic book and the first comic book by what is now known as DC. Each story was created like a newspaper comic strip, which makes sense since that was how comics were printed at the time. Each story took a page or fewer and ended in a cliffhanger to bring readers back. I wish each story was more diverse in their endings. Most of the stories ended with the main character bring captured, which became repetitive fast. I really liked the illustrations and one or two of the stories would have been good enough to pull me back the following month to see what happens. Hopefully, I can find issue 2 and maybe it will be more complete.
