Bittersweet Chocolate by C.M. Guidroz

I enjoyed this quick read and the gore aspects. I kind of agreed with the MMC about her acquiring and quitting hobbies on a single income 😅 I did think the underlying themes were definitely revenge worthy. I liked the aspect of her Insanity and loved her relationship with her 3yo.

Did not finish book. Stopped at 13%.

Not enjoying the juxtaposition of the childish FMC with the horny snake demon. Read reviews that confirm my decision to DNF. 

Awakening by Cate Tiernan

I love Morgan coming into her powers and oh to be a teen again lol. Felt this one was a little slower and considering the plot lines.

I feel like I can’t give too many details in my review since there are so many books, anything could be a spoiler lol 

Another laugh out loud installment in the (mis)adventures of Stephanie Plum. 

Onyx Storm by Rebecca Yarros

I was between DNFing and switching to the kindle version, and yet I did neither. I could not keep invested and I think it’s largely due to the narrator. She read every scene, no matter how mundane, as if it were an urgent battle scene. She kept switching voices as well to where I couldn’t tell if it was Violet or Xaden speaking. And this is the book’s problem, not narrators, but I am so over Violet and Xaden and their relationship. Literally any side character is infinitely more interesting than the two of them. 

Pretty Monster by Sheridan Anne

I really enjoyed this book. The serial killer wanting to end the FMC’s life was something I’ve never read before. I guessed the twist early on, but it was still fun. The middle also dragged a bit (I don’t think this needed to be almost 400 pages), but I still really liked it and the story as a whole. 

The Fall Risk by Abby Jimenez

I’m obsessed with everything Abby writes! I loved the forced proximity and the set up. The besties were top tier and the main couple were great for each other. For being under 100 pages, I was fully entertained and love the laugh out loud banter. 

Quicksilver by Callie Hart

This book is definitely going to be one of my top reads of the year. I feel like it has ruined me for whatever romantasy I read next. The banter, plot, setting, characters were all perfection. The plot twists had me squealing. The ending had me literally screaming. I have never preordered a book so fast. I cannot wait for book 2 and more Saeris and Fisher and to know what happens next.

I’m enjoying this reread as an adult. I have to keep reminding myself to empathize with teenage emotions lol

Maybe I should have DNFed this… Sloane was so negative and Naomi was so selfish that it was such a chore reading about them. The aha feminism moments hit you over the head, in a way that made me roll my eyes. I’m not sure what the point of this was? Everyone sucked. I liked the body horror and gore, but I just did not care about the characters. I really feel like they didn’t both need to make it to the end 😅
