It was ok. It was cute and I did enjoy the main characters. However, it felt like Christina Lauren was trying to hard to make smut happen. I have read all different types of spice level in books and do not have a problem with lots of adult content (examples, Penelope Douglass, Scarlett St. Clair) but this book just wasn’t working in that department. I felt second hand embarrassment on several occasions and honestly it took away from the plot. There is spicy scenes that drive the plot and spicy scenes that work against the plot. These felt to shoved down your throat “look we can write spicy books” and it didn’t feel like it flowed/fit with the story. The plot had a ton of potential but I was slightly disappointed. If they would have made the book longer and developed their actual relationship more I think it could have been a way better book. I finished it and didn’t mind it but I won’t be reading the rest of the books in the series.
This book was an incredible end to this series. This one was definitely my favorite out of the 3 books. The world building, character development, and overall story was amazing. I would highly recommend this book/series to anyone fantasy lover but also a great introduction to someone new to the high fantasy genre. These books are long and seem intimidating but the story flows so well that it never feels dull. This book was the final stand to the build up from the first two books. Although romance was a subplot it was enough to keep me (someone who needs romance in all the books I read) completely invested. From just reading the first book I would never have guessed that this would be the outcome and loved every second of it. So many emotions after finishing this and could not recommend it enough. Could not be more excited for the spin of series coming in March 2022.
