This was a fun read, nothing serious or spooky or supernatural really. I did get a bit tired of the series after the second book. I wanted very much to get the back story on the main character, but lost patience with the side stories on the other characters. (sorry to be vague but not spoiling) Overall, the books are charming and I enjoyed them but wanted something a bit more substantive. I may go back to the series after I finish the mystery series I'm reading now.

I just could not get into this. Somehow the characters just never clicked for me.

Absolutely loved this book! It was my first "genealogy mystery. I've always been fascinated by genealogy but wish I were from a country like England where the records have been kept for hundreds of years. Much more fascinating! This book was right up my alley.

Granted, it took a bit of suspension of disbelief that a mild-mannered researcher could get caught up in something so dangerous. Still, the mystery was too intriguing for me to care. I blew through all the books in the series in no time flat and started searching for others in this genre, while I wait for Steve Robinson's next book to be released. (And, yes, I've pre-ordered it!)

I've read other books by this author that I enjoyed more. The best parts were those that took place on the reservation. Although the author states she did not base this on a real Native American tribe, she gives the characters and place setting a very strong sense of verisimilitude.

What made it tough for me was that I simply could not believe that the girls could get by for so long without the authorities stepping in and taking charge. Perhaps I'm just naive and this sort of thing happens every day, two girls wandering the country alone and not getting into serious trouble.

Regardless, Ms Hyde's prose and dialogue are always concise and compelling. Definitely worth the read if you enjoyed her other novels.

Read this on Kindle First. Enjoyed the setting in a remote village in Sweden. The mystery was a good one and kept me guessing. I will say that the dual storyline with Thomas' friend was too slow.

An ok read. Not in the same class as Gone Girl. Bit too predictable.
