i think maybe this book just isn’t for me. the writing felt very choppy and had a certain “millennial who’s surface level obsessed with tarot cards” and “the daughter of the witches you couldn’t burn” vibe for me. i did not get very far at all so I can’t really say anything for the plot just couldn’t get into it which is a bummer cause i love a good wlw magic situation.
this is a conflicting book for me. i really enjoyed the folklore and the way that the cruel history of christianity is illustrated. there are some really strong parts, especially showing that Vasya, while being a very strong main character is also just a child and a young girl living in a constricting time. but it did take me a while to get into the book and some moments were really strong and then others fell a little flat for me. i enjoyed reading it but i don’t think i would read another book by this author.
really compelling and extremely human book about AI. i loved that the author included so many genuine stories of people being both harmed by AI and benefited by it. there’s a really good balance to this story and I have a lot more information on how evil AI can be but also the misrepresentation of the technology itself. highly recommend the audiobook as well because there is an excellent interview with the author at the end!
absolutely one of the best books i have ever read. incredible storytelling and prose and beautiful full characters. stunning and heartbreaking and so healing
