Every now and then a book finds its way into your hands that possesses a certain kind of magic. It's that very special mixture of lush prose that thrusts you straight into the story, as though you are standing alongside the characters in the heart of the forest with the scent of loam and moss in your nostrils. If that is something you love, then A Feather So Black is for you.

I could not put this down. I had to force myself to slow down and stop reading for a little while because I knew the second I left this story behind, I'd have a horrible book hangover. I finished it, only to decide that the best course of action was to give myself a few days to simmer and then I read it again.

I'm a huge fan of Hannah Whitten and Rachel Gillig's writing style, and this story has that same enchanting feeling I got while reading For the Wolf and I will forever chase books that give me that same dark, but achingly beautiful in all the right places, kind of fairytale story. I cannot wait to have a physical copy of this book in my hand to annotate.

Read this if you love:
-dark fairytales
-celtic lore and mythology
-fae
-Stabby FMC's
-forest magic

This was exactly what a cozy fantasy read ought to be: lighthearted and fun, with uncomplicated characters and easy world-building that didn't feel the least bit empty or lacking.

* closed door romance
* found family
* fated mates
* humans, elves, ogres, dwarves and lots of other magical creatures
fast-paced

First and foremost, I have to address how absolutely stunning the cover of this book is. I'm a sucker for gorgeous cover art and I absolutely love the colors and art style of this cover. I'd have picked this book up from the shelf based on the cover alone.

This was a really fast read for me and I enjoyed it though it definitely seems most suitable for a younger YA audience despite the fact that the characters are 18. What really caught my interest was the magic system being based on the moon. I thought this was an interesting approach and made the story feel unique despite a lot of familiar tropes being present.

Overall I thought the story, characters and writing were enjoyable, and I think anyone familiar with the Cast's work, especially the House of Night series, will find this equally enjoyable.

 • dual pov/ first person present
 • dark academia type setting
 • hidden powers
 • chosen one
 • magical trials
 • slow burn friends to lovers romance

Many thanks to P.C. Cast, Kristin Cast, St.Martins Press/Wednesday books, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and share my thoughts on an eARC of this book.
dark fast-paced

I have been in an off an on reading slump for a while now and this book yanked me right out of it. I assumed when I started this that I would enjoy it simply because Danielle Jensen wrote it, but I was unprepared for how quickly I would swallow up this story and I sat there afterwards wishing book two was already in my hands.

If you love mythology, especially Norse mythology, and want a fast paced read with forbidden romance, forced proximity and a fierce FMC, then this book will be right up your alley.

Many thanks to Danielle Jensen, Random House and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review an eARC of this book.

4 stars for the simple fact that I had a lot of fun reading this and it was exactly the right vibe I needed. I would've gladly gobbled up another book or two with just these characters because I loved them all.

Read this if you're in the mood for:
- Fae
- Shifter princes and fated mates
- Light enemies to lovers
- Slow burn with very low spice
- Uncomplicated world-building
- Interesting characters and witty banter

Sometimes, you just need a story that doesn't feel too dark. Something that doesn't ask too much of you but gives you all the cozy vibes along with characters you can really root for. I really loved Connor and Lieke. Connor was a snarky, cinnamon roll with exactly the right amount of "touch her and die" vibes. It made his character feel more realistic compared to the way many fantasy books exaggerate certain MMC tropes. And Lieke was so feisty, I just adored her. She wasn't in your face about the fact that she could handle herself, she just did what she needed to do and expressed herself in a way that felt genuine and I wanted to see her get her HEA.

A huge thank you to Vanessa Rasanen for sharing an eARC of this book with me. If you don't follow Vanessa on social media, I highly recommend it. She's an auto-buy author for me not just because her books are great fun but also because she's just an awesome human.
