Kill Creek by Scott Thomas
Solid haunted house horror story but major content warning for bananas levels of fatphobia and a decent amount of ableism as well. Feels very much like a horror book from the 1980s
The Lady Travelers Guide to Scoundrels and Other Gentlemen by Victoria Alexander
adventurous
funny
lighthearted
medium-paced
Things I liked:
-Age of heroine (29, which isn’t common in historical romance)
-The setting
-The banter/overall dialogue
-Individual characters, particularly Val and the 3 older ladies
-Fantastic reluctant travel companions to find a missing women premise
-No epilogue ending!
Things I didn’t like:
-Used the word “creature” so many times
-Emphasis was heavily skewed on heroine needing to grow/change (which alone was fine, but there was no equivalent for the hero, and she was constantly teased about her personality)
-Plot was mostly fun, but went a bit too over the top for my taste at some points (especially with Martin)
Overall, enjoyable, particularly the audiobook version, but stumbled a few too many times for me to love it
