A good book was its own brand of magic, one I could safely indulge in without fear of getting caught by those who hunted. I loved escaping from reality, especially during times of trouble. Stories made everything possible.

This world is so fun and entertaining. The witchy vibes, mystery, demon princes, spells, HOT DEMON PRINCES, feminist messaging, solving a murder, Italian culture in a fantasy setting and the food imagery. I devoured the imagery and beautiful prose. The banter between Amelia and Wrath was so good. I love them and he was hilarious. I love poetic men who have been around since the beginning of time. I think it's my kink. Eternally sexy poetic beings who are a little, if not a lot evil. The fanart of him had me keeling over like how is this fictional man taking me out. Anyways, the vibes were beautiful. I can't wait to see more of this world and more of Amelia and Wrath. I hope she gets meaner and maybe a little smarter but overall amazing vibes. I love witches.

“I do not wish to taint my body with the foulness of human food," I mocked. "But desserts are acceptable.” - Wrath, cannoli lover.

A reckoning awoke in me. The more I gave, the more he returned. We traded kisses like blows. And if this were a fight, I wouldn't know who was winning. I understood why some thought kissing one of the Wicked was addictive. Each time his tongue touched mine, it felt as if the ground beneath me quaked. Like we were a cataclysmic event that shouldn't be.

“Why do villains always wear black?”
“Better to hide the blood with, witch.”

His annoyance joined mine in unholy matrimony.

“One day you'll call me death. For now, Wrath will do.”

Cooking was magic and music combined. The crack of shells, the hiss of pancetta hitting a hot pan, the metallic clang of a whisk beating the side of a bowl, even the rhythmic thwack of a cleaver against a wooden cutting board.

Grief carved me in half. And fury honed the pieces into a weapon. Now it was time to unleash it.

“Hello, Hart-ache,”
“Hello, Merciless.”

Hart and Mercy are so cute to me. I love friends first and pen pals. Both tropes I personally really enjoy. It dragged for me after the
third act breakup (oh no I am so shocked)
but I felt  happy and resolved by the end. I loved the build up and relationship building. They had good banter but I wouldn't say it's enemies to lovers, more like miscommunication meets irritation. The fantasy elements were interesting but I kept hoping there would be a bit more explanation of the creatures and lands. It was a unique concept though and a very fun and beautiful story. Hart is basically a ranger/cowboy/guard (marshal) combination and Mercy is an undertaker (she preps dead bodies). She's sweet and a plus-size FMC! He adores her and they bond over books and life. It's real real love..... IMO. Her family really pissed me off though. They were so judgmental of her and expected her to deal with their problems 24/7. Overall I believe Hart is wicked hot and overall really enjoyed the unique and sweet fantasy story.

“I want to be with someone who asks me how my day was, someone who finds what I have to say interesting. I want to be with someone who thinks that - I don't know - that I'm kind of special. That's all.”

Unpopular opinion... I loved this book. Everyone seems to hate Michael but I really didn't. Michael and Rika were so high stakes and complicated. I really enjoyed the mystery, secrets, devils night antics and even the horsemen in all their mean bad boy glory. I found all the characters so interesting and Michael was fucked up but I couldn't help loving him. Also, maybe I just like hot guys who are a bit evil? Seems to be my type. I am a seasoned dark romance girly but this was super solid. I would definitely say it's taboo at times but what can I say, I ate it up. Even Damon, who is such an asshole..... i was having so much fun. I know it's problematic and all the men are straight up terrible. I think I have bad taste. Whatever bad things people say, are mostly right but..... I like messed up people and dark romance. I do wish Michael groveled though, Rika forgave him too easy. They should have all begged on their hands and knees. The catacombs, the mask scene and the sauna... I was sweating. RIKA SAID LETS GO TO PARIS.  Rika is so real though with being in love with an asshole for her whole life and being blinded by hotness. I did like the ending and they honestly fit. I did expect her to have more of a backbone and was disappointed with her not making the boys beg but at every turn.. she folded. But this was all kinds of fucked up. Check trigger warnings. I feel mildly shameful for how much I enjoyed this. I love these freaks.

And it was October 30, the night before Halloween. Devil’s Night.

Damon Torrance, Kai Mori, Will Grayson III, and—I locked my gaze on the blood red mask covering the face of the one always in the lead a little more than the others—Michael Crist, Trevor’s older brother.

“It’s just you, Little Monster. Own it or it will own you.”

“Run all you want, Little Monster,” he said, sounding like a threat. “We’re faster.”

They were here. The Four Horsemen. They were Thunder Bay’s favorite sons, and they’d gone to high school here, graduating when I was a freshman.

As individuals we had weaknesses, but as the Horsemen we were invincible. We each brought something different to the table, and where one lacked, the others stepped in.

Three years ago, curious little Erika Fane wanted to play with the boys, so we indulged her, and she betrayed us.

“Trevor’s not my boyfriend.”
“Too bad. I like playing with shit that’s not mine.”

That’s what I admired about the Four Horsemen. They were always in control and always visible.

“You robbed your own fucking store, Rika!” Will laughed and grabbed fistfuls of my sweatshirt, shouting into my face. “You’re the fucking king, baby!”

Will started singing, then slid out of his seat, and I shook with laughter as he straddled me, giving me a lap dance to the music.

“When we used to wear the masks,” Michael said, dropping his voice to a near whisper, “you liked it, didn’t you?

“So you like the mask. You’re pretty fucking sick, aren’t you?” he teased.

“Such a beautiful little monster,” he whispered

“Because you’ve corrupted her nice and good. She’s a force now, and it won’t be long before she’s brave enough to demand what she wants. If you don’t give it to her, she’ll find someone else who will.”
