I preferred this way way way over Caraval by Garber. With that series, I felt her writing wasn’t as strong (excluding the first one). I had nervously high hopes and I thoroughly enjoyed reading this. The wait for my copy of The Ballad of Never After is going to be torture. Also, bonus points for everything about this book feeling aesthetic. From the cover to the Magnificent North, I literally felt so main character core.

Omigods. This book. I don’t think I’ll ever recover. I always said Magnus Chase was Rick Riordan’s best works but this. Also props to Mark Oshiro. I really hope these two collaborate again in the future.

Honestly the ending itself brought my rating up because it got me crying (in a good way). Great finale for a good series.

The first and second books were better. Although I enjoyed reading Scarlett’s pov again, she felt very out of character in her actions. The forced love triangle was also not the vibe. I was excited to read Once Upon a Broken Heart after finishing this trilogy, but now that I read it, I have low hopes.

This book left me with the feeling of “huh, that happened.” I’m not sure if I love or hate the ending. It felt as times the plot was zigzagging and Garber couldn’t decide where she wanted to go with it. It also felt semi predictable at some points. Sometimes the predictability felt like figuring out the killer in a murder mystery and other times it felt like getting a spoiler. The first book was better than this one. Overall, I did enjoy the story and hope that Finale is a good read.

I’m going to be honest. I hated the beginning. It was slow and dragged on, but the more I read the more interested I got. George and Lennie’s friendship will be on my mind for a while.

Although there were times I felt the writing was weaker, I overall enjoyed this book and will be reading the sequel.

I hate this for one specific reason:
Jason dies. He was one of my favorite characters and I can’t believe Rick could do such a thing.
Other than that, the book was good. Great plot and loved the dryads.
