Good precursor to Orwell's 1984 but hard to always know what's going on (for me anyway). Glad I read it but wouldn't read it again.

I heard a lot of things about this book, more so about the Netflix series. It was a good book - suspenseful, well written, thought provoking. It's unfortunate that it seems to have caused problems for the audience it was intended to reach. I can see if you already have some emotional issues how it would be triggering, but otherwise I fail to see what the fuss is about. I think it brings up some great questions and definitely makes you think twice about the things you say and do.

I wasn't sure what I thought about this book until I finished it. What an emotional roller coaster. If you want an account of World War II in Italy, this is the one to read. It gets terribly sad and upsetting in some places, but this story needs to be told.
