I think this book is not only an incredibly enjoyable piece of fiction, but an important piece of history. The messages and moral decision-making at the core of this book are not to be taken lightly. The book follows 14-year-old Ella as she is imprisoned in ‘Birchwood’ concentration camp. It is a story of hope, love and survival. The use of colour in this book is extremely unique and really helps a reader to understand the overall tone of each section and also to picture each scene clearly and vividly. Would highly recommend for 13+
