emotional inspiring mysterious tense slow-paced

This book was set during the Depression and in these desperate times, there are things that people felt they had to do in order to survive and it wasn't always "right" to me so it's a little hard to fathom sometimes.

Silstice "Silly" is a young girl of 13 whose family home burns down, her father disappears, and her mother takes her 2 young brothers while telling her daughters to find somewhere to live as she can't take care of them. It's all very sad but Edna, Silly's 4H leader takes her in, to the reluctance of her grumpy husband Vernon.

Silly is such a determined girl though and she showed how much help she can be to Edna and Vernon. There are also rumors of a child kidnapping (and worse) ring in town and these characters are going to be tested to their limits.

At the end of this book, I really grew to love Silly, Alberta; her sister, and yes even grumpy Mr. Vernon.

Cooper really is a cinnamon roll. He's so super sweet! This was a fabulous enemies to lovers. I thought the HS thing was a little silly to be mad over for years but I also got it... Especially with the memes.

Leah was so fun. Her parents were a riot. I love her friendship with her coworkers. Cooper is such a great son, brother and uncle to his family. His nieces are adorable. I felt bad for what happened to him at his previous lawyer job, but I love that his experience got to help Leah out.

I love this whole book! I need to go back and read the previous brothers stories

Super short and sweet with a crazy element (stalking) that was handled very well... Girl power!

Seth and Charlotte are stuck in their second floor apartment building when the stairs disappear! Charlotte has no qualms because she's in hiding but she doesn't like heights and doesn't go out and Seth climbs trees for a living so he's not afraid of heights but his divorce was just finalized and he's not looking to start anything with anyone.

They make do. There's instant attraction to looks and personality for both MCs. They have great friends (Gabe made me laugh and Izzy is a no-nonsense toughie). When the truth of Seth's ex comes out, my eyes were bugging out of my head! Omg.

This was a good but also heartbreaking family drama. Cecily is at the center of this drama and I loved her so much

A young orphan, Cecily is sold into the circus. She travels and performs for them for several years under the front of her "sister" Isabelle. Until she falls in love with the "wrong" boy, a young Black man.

This story showcases so much from each of the timelines and they aren't always easy. Like the 1930s and the prevalent racism plus the horrible practice of sterilizing, without consent, thousands of young girls and selling their babies. The DNA in the 2015s where you might not always find things in your family lines that you want to know.

I loved the ending as it had me in tears and just brought families together in love and rejoicing.

I want to say that I wanted to dropkick Amelia this whole book and that's all I'll say about her 🤣.. I would have a hard time working for that woman.

One of my favorite quotes between the MCs was (paraphrased as I remember it) Jack saying"You may not have been dating me this whole time, but I've been dating you. "

Bryony had such a heart of gold and I really don't know how she could ghostwrite for this awful person for 2 years. I love her reason for wanting to write her own book, she wanted to save The Bridge for her Gran just as her Gran saved her when her parents passed.

I loved all the ESL students. The one that called her saying "he was gone" when he was lost on the subway and how she genuinely cared for them. The big end scene was comedy gold but that's all I can say without giving anything away.
lighthearted fast-paced

This was a fast read. It's filled with witches, waning magic, wolf legends, queer rep and a mystery to solve when the MC's family shop is burgled.

I love all things witchy but this seemed a bit juvenile and uncomplicated. It was an easy flow of reading. But I also felt that there wasn't too much substance. I did like the way the FMCs went about trying to figure out who was responsible for the break-in. But not much else was very memorable to me.

Queenie is such a complex character and I really felt for her struggles as much as I could because I can't speak fully to her experiences.

She is a Jamaican British woman, working at a newspaper where she would love to write about the Black experience but the paper won't let her, and she gets dumped by her boyfriend of 3 years. This sets her off on a very destructive path.

This book deals with so much.... racism, creepy men who feel they can treat a woman in any way they want, unprotected sex and the consequences of it, stigma some have of going to therapy to help sort out life and so much more.
mysterious tense slow-paced

I may get hate but this was not my favorite. I felt this book didn't even pick up any type of pacing I loved until between 300-350 pages! That's way too long to get some more action going besides reminding us of how much Violet and Xadan burn for each other or hardly touch each other and moving place to place to try and find Andarna's kind which doesn't really become too successful.

I was confused and bored for most of it.. waiting for something just HUGE to happen with a certain character. When that character's HUGE something comes... The book is almost done.

I was glad we got to find out Violet's second signet but also I can't fathom how it might be purposeful.... Hopefully that gets more exploration and explanation.

I did like to get a few different POVs in the book but then again... Mostly near the back. I just felt this book 3 has the usual book problems.... Just not as good as the beginning book.

Viviana is an editor at (to me) a boring job and she's trying her hand at writing a novel. She has the support of her best friend, Jack. They run together, did some marathons together and live near each other.... But things are starting to change because of a different guy...

I had a fun time with this though I wanted to take the FMC and give her a good shake for most of it. Girl, how could you want a guy who is so blatantly rude to you and everyone else?! Gregory was the worst. I did feel we should have got more of the "after" she found out why Gregory sidled up to her  but also at the same time... I'm glad we were done with him.

I highly wish these two best friends would have just talked and saved each other a lot of grief and tension. But the pay off was sweet and it was finally nice to root for them.
lighthearted tense fast-paced

As taboo as this whole concept seems....2 going to be step-siblings soon MCs should feel so awkward (and at times does when you know what's coming) but it was really well done that I didn't always feel uncomfortable That's all I can say in that without getting spoilery.

I'm a person where "insta love" usually is hard to fathom for me, but I really thought this lent well to the story so it didn't bother me much.

I really liked Chloe just jumping in to try and be independent from her mother who has kept her too close all her life... Even when she needs help with seemingly basic parts of life. Sig is such a goner for her immediately so I could really feel the tension and the inner turmoil he had. It was just a fun story.
