wow, a bl webnovel that isn't over 100 chapters long!! storygraph user saramdeuri, are you finally moving to normal-length books? the answer is no. i'm still finishing orv

all jokes aside, this is actually one of the best BL i've read hands down. there are quite a few excellent quality fan translations floating around, which are incredibly impressive works of passion and expertise.

Faraway Wanderers itself is a great piece of storytelling. while the romance itself is rather more understated than i expected, it was still convincingly done, and there were so many points in Zhou Zishu and Wen Kexing's interactions where I couldn't stop myself from smiling. I even let out a few actual, real life, full-chested laughs. Priest knows how to write a good comedy scene!

Priest also unfortunately knows how to write a sympathetic character, and then very cruelly breaks your heart. Luckily they also try to mend it back together in the extras! I'm still gonna need a few business days to recover from all that though. Thoroughly recommended!

well it's certainly a webtoon about transmigrating into a game where you're a villainess. reveals quite a lot of information in just this one volume but not enough that's interesting to keep me hooked for another volume.

I went into this with 0 expectations and came out of it a little bit disappointed. felt way way way too rushed, none of the characters were developed enough for a reader to feel some kind of understanding with them or to feel like the 5 girls all together were a good team or even liked each other at all, really. the final villain reveal was unexpected, yes, because we were given absolutely no indication of what would happen in the book at all, really.

points for effort and concept. really just should've been longer.

ok this is definitely getting more intriguing!! author knows very well how to build tension and mystery. getting both perspectives is definitely helping too.

how am i this susceptible to boy groups what is it in my neurology that makes me attached to guys who sing n dance like this as a lesbian ?? the mystery continues.

and so does this mystery! very nicely done. nothing much else to say, since it doesn't build too much more on the first volume/season/set of chapters. just a good continuation.

I'll be honest: I'm not entirely against toxic BL, even those that depict rape and abuse between the main couple, for various lengthy reasons I will probably write an essay about. This series is one of those BL. The ML rapes the MC after having, essentially, cherry-picked him and tracked him down, and for the rest of the first volume, at least, continues to abuse and manipulate him, as well as perpetrate violence against anyone who stands against him and his "lover".

Is this healthy? No. Does the author present it as romantic? No, neither! The pleasure in reading this is derived from the dread, or a sick little sadomasochistic pleasure if you're wired for that sort of thing. Also it's building up towards mpreg, which is surprisingly less mentioned across the volume than I thought it'd be.

Common qualms addressed, let's move on to the thing in general. This book is fine. The translation is good,  the plot is interesting enough, but... there's something missing. I think the MC isn't acting as independent and strong as the author initially sets him up to be, and he ends up falling into the personality tropes for your average BL uke/su, which makes it a little bit more boring than it should've been. Also, I often found myself skipping a lot of text, which isn't a good sign...

this is pretty intriguing!! managed to keep me engaged enough to finish it in two sittings. in my heart of hearts I am a toxic yaoi enjoyer, and this fills up that evil little corner of mine.

I love the premise of having two seemingly normal main characters actually be very... odd, to say the least, and have them then turn onto each other. Perhaps I would've enjoyed talking abt this in my dissertation but alas. I also very much enjoyed that we don't get to see Cirrus/Hyeonwoons motivations fully in this volume. keeps me curious enough for the next volume, and hopefully the rest of the series. lovely art style also!

unfortunately I am not a fan of the anglicised names, no matter how pretty or meaningful they are. you could've simply had the explanation in the beginning as to what their names mean and why it makes for a fun Easter egg with the title, instead of having literally only two characters have English names. otherwise the translation is good.
