Informative, articulate, well-documented, funny, easy to read and important. Explores topics beyond the mere scope of psychedelics and micro-dosing. (War on drugs, harm reduction measures, mental health, racial injustices etc. ) Definitely not a « hippie book ».
The kind of non-fiction I love.

I liked it. I found the beginning a bit confusing & slow to start, but the characters (mainly the female ones) eventually grew on me. I liked the siblings dynamics and the bits about surfing.
It’s an entertaining, mainstream read. Not very deep though.

So. This is a very good book. But it’s not the espionage page turner I was hoping for.
1st person (reliable) narration. Two intertwined timelines. 1. NYC in the 50’s Vera’s coming of age backstory and difficult relationship with her mother, struggling with her bisexuality, and how she comes to work for the CIA. 2. Buenos Aires right before the coup and Argentinian revolution, where Vera is on a tech mission to get intelligence on a group of students.
It’s very thoroughly researched, slow, literary work.

Meilleur tome. Et cette fin. Incroyable.

The kind of journalism I like. Well researched, well documented, balanced and humane. Polan gives history and perspective on a highly sensitive societal topic. But he is also really good at making the reading fun and relatable through anecdotes and accounts of his personal experience and doubts. Loved it.
