A compelling story examining the consequences of fate and passivity.
Full review soon, still dealing from this book's perfection.
AN UNKINDNESS OF GHOSTS left me gasping. It has been so long since a book has sewn itself to the deepest parts me, and I was compelled to read it slowly for fear of breaking apart from the strain of the truth and emotion that it was imparting. This book is about hard love. This book is about the inevitable cruelty of people. It provides no answers, asks all the questions, and is 100% a must-read for anyone and everyone living in a hierarchical society that uses skin color to justify horrific, systematic cruelty.
Apart from the deep literary and humanistic value that the novel has, it is an astounding science fiction story, mixing all the best parts of actual science and the pushing the borders of human knowledge and abilities.

A wonderful start to what's sure to be an intriguing series. This comic combines a classic origin story with the modern struggles of being a single mother in modern day. I loved the art and the story, and can't wait to find out what's coming next.
A bit plodding but the overall theme was interesting and clear. Some people say this book was an early demonstration of feminism, but I disagree. Emma is often punished for reading and striving for that romantic life that she finds between pages of novels. However, one cannot say that women who did not read--such as Madame Bovary the first--faired much better. The woman became bitter with her life and tried to dictate her son's. All in all, I'd give it another read as I don't think I appreciated the book as it is supposed to be appreciated due to the fact that I was under pressure to finish. I think it'd be worth a revisit.
