Incredibly disappointing. Overly grandiose, and for being an "anti-religious" book, it certainly reads like it's preaching.

Starts pretty bold - with a character index taking up the first few pages in the place of proper introductions - but take the time to reference it and get engrossed and this is certainly a rewarding read, gratuitous zero f gender neutral sex aside. Incredibly enjoyable world-building and characters.

First time I can remember abruptly stopping a nonfiction book - the more I read or listen to Sam Harris, the more I come to realize how incredibly pretentious and self-aggrandizing he is. This book may have some good points buried in it, but I don't much feel like wading through the miserable prose to find them.

The world-building and characters are so above and beyond almost anything I've ever read. I'll be diving into the third immediately - this definitely had a "middle book" feel to it.
