This had similar vibes to Gideon the Ninth and to The City We Became. Not in terms of plot, but atmosphere, art, and humour. I don't know how I feel about comics, but I'll read anything by NK Jemisin.
A commentary about emotions, power, discrimination.

If you liked the concept of a Man Called Ove, but it just didn't hit for you the way you wanted to, then this is the book for you.
A man who believes he's failed in life slowly rebuilds his relationships with his family and also falls in love again. This was a beautiful story. I just want to give Panenka a hug :/

I saw a review that said: "I loved Blindness, however, this is just so unlikely that I can't get into it. To imagine government abandoning society because of the freedom to cast blank ballots seems ridiculous."
Wow, to be that naive. I envy people who have so much trust in governments. This was such a real story about how governments do not actually make our lives better at all. And Saramago poses the question of what if people just decided enough was enough? Since the government is actually oppressive (no matter how free you think you are in your country), why not just govern ourselves?
The novel itself was just a bit slow, but other than that, Saramago did a really good job and making you feel like you were in his world. I can see how this concept can be too scary for people who have been conditioned to trust those in a higher power and that's why I love it.

Honestly I am just so glad to have finally finished this book after 678 days of reading it... almost two years. That's insane. Suffice to say I was to tired of reading it and I just wanted it done. Just didn't connect with the characters as much and it was just fine honestly. Happy to cross off another series.

So when I read the first 4 chapters, I thought "oh no", I don't know if I am going to enjoy this... BUT THEN? Wow, loved it. Was amazing, it completely sucked me in and didn't let me go. I feel so connected to the characters and I know they'll be on my mind for a little while more.
I loved the discussion of how families aren't always blood, and are often who you chose to be your family, and it also means loving them and supporting them, even with their sometimes large flaws. Monstrilio was absolutely heartwarming and heartwrenching at the same time. A beautiful novel about love and grief.

That was so disorienting but also interesting. I liked it, but I also don't really feel like I have a grasp of the book. Feels like one of those books you need to reread multiple times to not miss any piece of information, and to really get the whole picture.

A breath of fresh air inbetween difficult books, so cute & wholesome.
Just a little tired of these characters who have no social skills and "never talk to anyone" and "oh no, ew, a human that I need to talk to." I get that, I sometimes have phases like that, but also, you can't be in your 30s with that mindset, it's just a little annoying and I am tired of reading about immature female characters when the male characters are mature. Can't we have both?

I feel like you need to be in a very emotional state to feel like this has a huge impact. It's cute but not specifically groundbreaking.
