Plot wise - this was repetitive and if you're not a fan of constant descriptions (all the holidays are just described) then maybe don't pick up this book
Were the main characters problematic? Yes!
But were they justified? Eh, sometimes - honestly they just needed to admit their feelings
But were their pasts preventing them from doing this? Yes absolutely!
I loved how we see them tak accountability for their actions in the end by finally going for
therapy

But honestly I loved this book purely because the characters spoke to me - Poppy with her wanderlust trying to escape her past and Alex the oldest sibling who feels like he can't be happy unless everyone else around him is happy
Do they match in personality - Nope, but do they find happiness with and in one another - Yes! And that's what made this book special to me
Sometimes you find someone who makes absolutely no sense to be with, but they are your person!

Went into this book excited to read Holly Jackson's writing again
This book did slightly disappoint me
The plot is intriguing, with good characterization of all the characters, but the plot twist fell short for me
Also why did I find everyone in this book untrustworthy and manipulative
Even at the end when
Rachel explains what happened and when Carter kills Charlie
I was like excuse me, why are you all going along with
Rachel's plan to hide the murder because apparently Bel's dad was a murderer

Also the cops in this book are useless, but we know Holly loves to show us just how useless our justice system is :)
Anyhoo very unrealistic plot twist but loved the writing
Just wish Bel took on more of an investigative role instead of things just happening

Really enjoyed this book, but again Lauren Roberts pacing is off. Felt like we were going in round about circles with Kai and Paedyn not admitting their feelings. Also wish we got more of the resistance because we barely know anything about this group of people anymore than the 1st book
But Kai and Paedyns chemistry , tension and banter saved this book and reminded me why I love them
Excited to see what happens in the final book and how Lauren manages to finish everything off because we really didn't get any plot developments in this book
Until then, darling 😙

Started the audiobook - the narrator was just not for me with the accent
That paired with the writing of the book and the male perspective
It sounds interesting but the descriptions just go on and on and the amount of lewd jokes targeted at women is not for me at all
Maybe it would be better as a read, not an audiobook but I don't think that's high on my TBR 😐

Definitely loved the character development that happened in this book!
Also enjoyed it so much more than the 1st book because I connected to the characters more and the analysis of the serial killer was really well done
Were there some aspects that would never happen in real life? Definitely. Were there plot holes? Yes.
But of you're a criminal minds lover like me you'll love this series

This is my 4th Emily Henry book and I feel like maybe Happy Place was the anomaly ( the only Emily Henry book I've rated 5 stars). And here's why:
She's a really good author especially when it comes to giving characters a backstory and a psychological analysis which helps understand why certain characters act in a certain way - I've seen this in all 4 books I've read and I've loved that side of it, however in order to enjoy an Emily Henry book you need to connect and identify with the characters and I think this is where the book fell short for me. I just couldn't relate to Daphne and Miles upbringing and how this impacted their lives. This is not to say I didn't enjoy what was told because I think it brought alot of lessons but all their trauma kind of got dumped in big heaps and the rest of the novel was just them
going around Waning Bay for Miles epic tour guide plan / adventure

It did provide for an excellent setting and lovely descriptions but I felt myself getting bored with the constant reiteration of
every Sunday outing

The relationship also felt purely lustful and physical and even when they emotionally connected the physical element still stuck constantly. The ending also was rushed in my opinion
However, it must be noted that the development and discussion around found family and friendships that one navigates in their twenties / thirties is what saved this book for me - Emily Henry always wins me with that and as someone whose constantly worried about making friends and feeling alone I could identify with Daphne in that regard
All in all its not a bad book by any means, just not one that will resonate with me or had me connected to any characters and that's no fault of the author (as I said the writing is good with a light airy breath to it but with some deep thought provoking one liners /sentences ).

This is my first time reading Harry Potter in my entirety of existence (yes I'm in my twenties and I've never read Harry Potter - not once), and I'm quite surprised to have enjoyed it as much as I have.
This would probably be a 5 star read for me if I read it at a younger age as it definitely reads as a children's book. I still really liked that element - kind of felt like I was a young 12 year old girl again and it filled me with nostalgic magic and I think that beautifully encompasses what Harry Potter is, whether its your very 1st time reading it or your hundredth time. I loved the characters and the Hogwarts magic that seeped through the pages, plus the reveal of
Voldermort at the end
. It kept me intrigued and I could distinctly imagine everything like a young child wandering through Hogwarts myself 🧙🏼‍♂️
I can't wait to continue the series and eventually watch the movies

It was very much YA especially in the writing and characterization + world building - think of superheroes and villains fighting each other with the costumes and everything (something like marvel with a dystopian hint for children)
Definitely not a bad book by any means, I just think it's not for me rn and nothing gripped my attention 50% of the way through the book
I may pick it up again if I feel like I need to finish up a DNF :)

A re-read of mine that I decided to consume through the audio-book version and absolutely loved it! The production of this audio-book is so well done and amazing especially when it comes to the sound effects and making the words come to life from the book. As for the book itself - Holly will never cease to amaze me with the way she structured this series. My initial read did not pick up on all the little hints and clues she left for the rest of series to develop from, but you best believe my second reread picked up on nearly all and it just makes me appreciate her writing and mind even more. Would definitely recommend for lovers of Nancy Drew, PLL, Truly Devious aka all small town mystery thriller lovers!
