Maya’s story is a difficult one to hear, but her journey is empowering. I listened to a short dramatisation of this which was really well made, but would definitely like to read the original.
I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would! I loved Dickens’ writing style, it’s perfectly cozy and descriptive, and easy to follow compared to some classics.
Reread:
Still my least favourite of the trilogy, but I’m honestly shocked at how much I DONT dislike Mal this time. I’d definitely forgotten my love for some of these characters and BOY did I forget how much of a bitch Zoya is

I really enjoyed some of the scenes in this one. Creepy vibes as usual, intriguing storyline and amazing art style.
Not much else to say but I’m excited to get onto the next!

This was such a strange and unique story centring Afrofuturism. Okorafor weaves a wonderful story that reads like a forgotten folktale. It was immersive, alongside the authors stunning writing style, we have an extremely likeable main character who you can’t help but want to find out more about.
This was my first time reading something by this author but I definitely want to read more in the future.

Such a cute and whimsical story! It did get a little monotonous, but I loved the idea and it was really easy to read. Can’t remember all of my thoughts as it’s been a couple months now…
There was also a dyslexic child in here, but I can’t speak on whether that rep was done well.

Though I enjoyed the story, it wasn’t a favourite. Can’t quite put my finger on why I didn’t love it so much. Love the idea of book wandering and the merging of fairy tales was fun to see.
