immediately read this one because i saw the synopsis and said 'oh my god, groveling!' because duh
so i was really disappointed when there was NONE. i mean, he could've done something better but it's still lacking considering the amount of pain he made her go through. spoiler alert!! he's so painfully and incredibly hung up on his dead wife imo, and i felt like he was just using her and stuff. he's also super prideful so i should've known already that he wasn't the type who grovels but it still somehow made me hope that there's atleast a little groveling he can do, but it is what it is ig
the main character stands up for herself, yes, but she folds everytime and its so annoying because she deserves so much better!!
talks of misogyny, abuse and homophobia was here as well, but its so so so much better than the first book
first of all, i don't agree with the views and opinions said in this book.
lots and lots and lots of misogyny, talks of rape, physical and sexual abuse, and some mature scenes were honestly borderlining assault which made it really hard to like the characters and this book overall. i obviously wanted to give this one a chance, and I actually ended up liking this book when i decided to just skip all of the smut scenes, so 3 stars overall :))
overall, 3.5 stars because this was a very fun read! :))
book rant ahead, so beware of potential spoilers 😁
to start off, i honestly couldn't connect with the characters, but i did sympathize with them especially Grey - the love interest. usually, this "anti-social" behavior of a "cold" character would give me sort of an ick because it's just so funny and annoying sometimes, but i could understand why he behaved this way. i also personally believe that he deserves better than how he was treated, especially by the fmc which is Jaya.
now, i also understand her because yk being the eldest of the family and all, but i feel like she could've done something to atleast treat grey way better considering she already knew what he was going through BUT still a girlboss ,love that for her.
one, the plot is not really my thing because it involves cheating and other stuff im not really a fan of, BUT the way this was written did justice to everything i hated about this. i love the writing style sm
two, the love interest gave me the creeps until the last few chapters, so the only thing i loved abt him was his character development
but anyway, i could say that this is one of the best books i've read this year, and i would probably read more from the author if i get motivation again:))))
it was a good book but there are better ones out there. it took me a while to actually get in the feels while reading 🥲 and a while for me to like scottie :(( she annoyed me at times ngl but she could've been worse. for a romcom book this was def very emotional
could've been 4 stars if the love interest just groveled more. he did say sorry a lot but tbh its really not enough for me considering everything he put the main character through. i do understand why he did those things but it kind of just lacked for me.
i really liked the plot though since it was unique and new to me, and i also really liked the balance of angst and fluff here :))
