This is a book written for horrible people. It started off as a solid thriller with an intriguing premise, but when a book begins by teasing secrets, the follow-through will make or break it. In this case, it breaks it. I almost gave up at the halfway point as the "secrets" are ostensibly revealed, but I wanted to see what happened in the end, even though the events are implausible and the only character that isn't completely terrible is the one that all the other characters are ganging up to torture. The twist near the end bumped this up to 2 stars from 1 because at least the book was on the right side after all. But no matter what, this is still a book about a woman essentially being tortured for 300 pages, and the question it wants readers to ask is how much they think she deserves it.
