shallihavemydwarf's Reviews (964)
This book seems to have a lot of bad reviews here, and I noticed a lot of people saying it goes off the rails at the end. It doesn't. It's just not about what you think it's about. If you're excited about the cryotech future stuff, there's definitely some of that, but if you think that's the point you'll be disappointed.
I'm not sure what to think of this one. I mostly enjoyed the story, but there were definitely elements that didn't sit right.
This is a fantasy novel that feels like it has been written by someone who has never read a fantasy novel but all the same assumes that she and her readers all share the same general conception of what one should be. Everything is drawn in the broadest of strokes with very little effort into world-building, and there's magic and good and evil and some sort of battle but characterizations of either side are hazy at best. There are 2 little girls who I guess are elves, but it doesn't really matter. Honestly, I think the only people who would really like this are people who have been yearning to read real fantasy but maybe don't know it.
This is one of the first-novel-iest novels I have ever read, and I don't mean that in a bad way, because I do love a good debut, but I do mean that its strings are showing in places and its heart is bleeding all over its sleeve; which is charming overall, if a little over-eager.
