I’m sorry but this was really boring. It’s the structure of a myth without the argument. It’s the part of the Bible that’s mainly the list of who begat whom. I love LoTR but this is mostly useful as a related reference book.

I really liked this series of reflective essays from Elaine Castillo on how to read both books and the world in general.

I have not read her novel, but I am likely to pick it up now, due to both her thoughtful reflections, and the writing itself, which is brimming with funny, poignant turns of phrase tucked into elegant sentences.

Highly recommended for anyone interested in a thorough dissection of the ways we talk and think about reading.
