This is such an upgrade from the first book. There's an actual PLOT outside Belly just wanting Conrad in a really disturbinlgy juvinile way. WHich isn't to say that we didn't get that at all in this book, but it was SOOO much more bearable and it wasn't the main crux of the entire book.
We got a lot of great bonding moments between Belly, Jeremiah, and Conrad which we despratley needed. I actually liked that we got Jeremiah's perspective in this book, it didn't add as much as I was hoping it would, but it was still a welcomed addition. I really liked the conflict with Mr Fisher and him selling the house, it made sense, it was compellng, and it let everyone's character shine so much more instead of just being confined to the 2nd hand embarrasment inducing relationship that Belly was begging for form Conrad.
I must say that I was surprised when Belly actually came to understand and acknowledge that type of guy that Conrad is. We keep expecting it to all work out for the two of them but in the end Belly realizes that she deserves better then the guy who will pish her away until she came back. That shit was supringly powerful and I loved it. Now with that said Belly was still making a fool of herself, and being pretty self centered (how are you gonna make your 2nd mother figures funeral all about you and a boy?), but it was toned down for the most part. I will however stand by her being upset with prom because I'd be pissed too.
Belly's feelings towards Jeremiah at the end of the book did feel a little out of left field, we got a few glimps here and there it wasn't as much as I was expecting going into the story.
After the first book I didn't have terrible expectations, but I didn't think the rest of the series would be that much better and I'm glad to be wrong.

This is somewhere between a 2.5/5 to 3/5 stars. Probbaly closer to a 2.5
I just don't know how to feel. Throughout over half of the bok I just felt this unyielding dread for what anyone with a crumb of critical thinking could predict on how this book was going to end. I don't mind at all that Belly and Conrad ended up together, I just wish I didn't have to spend most of this book getting invested in a wedding that I think we all knew was going to actually happen. Spekaing of what happened in the end though, it was kind of anti-climatic. We build up to this wedding that we know will be a failure and there's not even a big fight between Belly and Jeremiah to end it? Probably for the best though, I would have skimmed it through 2nd hand embarassment for the characters to admit what quite literally everyone in this story knew all along. I'm also very combatitive with family so Belly and her mom having a cold war was not helping at all and just made me more annoyed.
Every book there's something I stand by Belly on some fight or issue that happens and in this book it's that she forgave Jeremiah waaaaaay to quickly. That man cheated on her and in just like what, 3 days, it's all well and good because he proposed to her? Nah that would not fly with me. If I was Belly and Jeremiah talked to me the way he did to Belly about Conrad, I wuld have brought that shit up so quickly.
Back to Belly and Conrad though, again I like them together, I like that there's a build up in the relationship from it being a shit storm, to it being less of one, I just want to know why we never EVER see them really dating in the present time! Like actually go through this entire series and find me a page where, in the present time, they are dating. Good luck charlie because you won't find it. This was the endgame couple and we don't even get to see them be a real couple in real time? That is so strange. Side note I did also realyl like that we got Conrads perspective this time, felt like we finally got to see him as a whole character.
The thing is that I had so much more fun reading this book in the 2nd half because it felt like we were making some meaningful progress towards what we all knew would happen with Belly and Conrad, so why couldn't we just get a book with it all being about that? I like Jeremiah but Jenny Han set that boy up for failure and robbed us of a better book.
I loved the letters in the prolouge from Conrad to Belly, it felt really genuine, sweet, and I was invested. It just makes me think again, what could have been. Just imagine if this book started with Belly deciding to go to college abroad and then started receiving those type of letters, OH YEAH, already such a better start and basis for the 3rd book. Would the ending of the 2nd book need to be changed? Yes, but it would be for the good of the universe.
So overall this book had good things, it's just drenched in disappointment and better "what if's" as well.

This was a really nice introduction to a sweet, and cheesy series. Midori, Rei, Chihiro, and Yuki are a fun group of people to follow around in high school. Midori trying to help her family with work, getting to know the boys and helping them out is all wholesome. The two main guys so far have good nuance between their backgrounds and how it contributes to why they're standoff-ish with the school and seeing how they grow found of Midori's friendship is nice and it isn't rushed or too heavy.
Not much to say besides that. It's cute, fun, and a nice ride.

5/5 star read.
I like that the story is becoming more well-rounded with introducing Midori into the group and not just focusing on her relationship with Rei. The other guys in the group matter and Midori's interactions with them should show that. While Yuki is annoying with how protective of Rei he is, it makes sense and it makes him warming up to Midori even better. Everything is still cute and fun and im looking foward to seeing how Midori and Chihiro's relationship pans out with Rei in the picture. Who doesn't love a little tension?

Everything's going at a really steady pace in the group. We're not jumping from A to X, but getting a nice progression of Midori and her relationship between all 3 boys. I kind of wish the crush wasn't as one-sided between Midori and Chihiro so it feels like it's something we can actually invest ourselves into, but right now it's pretty clear that the real relationship that'll happen is between Midori and Rei. I'm fine with that, but if we're gonna have a love-triangle, lets commit to it.
I did however really like all of the stuff that happened at the beach. Nice to see the boys work and get some perspective and that it pushed Midori's relationship with Rei and Chihiro further.

Wholesomeness levels are still off the charts, the romance is dragging just a very tiny bit, but it's still super cute. I thought the festival, the butlers, and the costume were all sweet and fun. Wish that Yuki would stop meddling and I think it's weird that the other guys are fine with him doing it so openly but oh well. He's warming up to Midori. Still cute!
Yesssss volume 5 is giving everything I wanted from this novel. Romance, stakes, drama it's giving it all! I didn't know how we were going to have a love triangle, or I guess square at this point with how the plot was moving, but now I DO see it. The family drama, the future graveling, the exploring of other love interests, I LOVE IT. It's all a lot more fast paced too which I am very thankful for. The pace before was fine, but it's a nice breath of fresh air to go at a higher pace.
The drama continues and I am all here for it. I liked the groveling and angst after the party and how Yuki instigated it. I also really liked that we got more insight about Rei and his dad's relationship. I've been waiting to see Midori's dad come back in the picture to see how that plays out since he's one of hte only people that Midori actually dislikes so that's fun to look foward too.

After wanting to read this manga for so long it's has finally happened. Going in at first it was a LOT more chessy then I thought it would be, which is really the reason why I'm giving it a 4.5/5 stars. But after getting past that initial shock of how they introduced Mafuyu and the band, I really liked where the story was going. Getting relationship building between Akihiko and Mafuyu, and how the rest of the band is seeing everything, as well as having their own interpsonal lives, even if it takes a back seat to the main story.
I did not expect Mafuyu's inspirtation and motivation to becoming a guitarist to be because of how his friend/boyfriend had taken their own life. These things can be very iffy and gray when put in media, but so far I like that it's not really been romanticized and that it makes how Mafuyu has been acting make sense. I'm excited to see how other people from his past come in and effect the story.
Akihiko has also been really nice to read, him having this unexplainable feeling towards Mafuyu and wanting to support and uplift him despite not really knowing why he wants too, while at the same time also finding a new found passion for his music is sweet.
The band dynamic is fun and the series so far is living up to it's hype.

Going into this series I definetly did not expect it to follow such a heavy handed story. I thought it was just going to be a wholesome, slice of life gay romance, but I'm not dissapointed that it's not. I really like how we have Mafuyu trying to find himself and understand how he feels through music and his relationship with the band. Grief is painful and complicated and we get to see that through him. His back story was also really great and heart-felt, it doesn't feel like his past relationship is just some obsticle in the middle of a new romance, but something genuine and important.
I also like how Akihiko is re-contexualizing how he feels about his music through his confusing feelings for Mafuyu. He's been great at music for so long, but now he has a new sense of inspiration and feelings for Mafuyu that's changing how he appreciates the band and their music.
Given the topic it was a little concerning on how the author was going to handle a romantic relationship between Mafuyu and Akihiko, while also respecting the heavy nature the story is also covering, but I think the author has done a pretty great job.
The bands show was really great and it was nice to see how far Mafuyu had come with the band.
