Buttercream and Bloodshed is a murder mystery that started off on a strong note. However, throughout the book, it felt difficult to understand the strong feelings that our MC Cassie exhibited towards everyone else. She was such a strong reactor, and it left little room for her to develop, or to be seen as a well rounded character. Our villain didn’t feel super well developed either. It was definitely easy to predict who it was, and towards the end, the story felt a bit silly with how dramatic the climax became- specifically with the bomb scene. A positive was that the writing was consistent throughout the book, and I did enjoy all the baking components. There were a few proofreading errors, but not many.
Overall, the book definitely still felt cozy despite it being a murder mystery!
Thank you BookFunnel and Tammy Beck for the ARC!
