3.75. Slow for the most part, but liked the new characters introduced & the ending has set up the rest of what’s to come so I will read the next one in time.
DNF. Tbf. I got pretty far (less than 50 pages unread), but then they were trying to justify the Mad Queen Dany arc with the crap that they changed from the books when writing the show character I had to put it down. “She stood outside Qarth screaming Fire and Blood” yeah well in the books she didn’t. She’s never told anyone in the books to bend the knee.
The changes from book to show are at times justified, ie the Iron Throne being small and comfortable. But the changes to Danys season 2 arc are not once mentioned in the book. Why? Why did they make those changes.
The first half of this book was ok. However it’s still hard to ignore the genuine negligence the showrunners had when it came to intimate scenes.
The latter half was a drag as it was just excuse after excuse, OR gloating and patting themselves on the back.
Exhausting.
The cast were amazing, and the source material for a while was handled well. GRRM wanted a faithful adaptation and he didn’t get it. My heart breaks for him that he gave away his story and it was squandered.
In spite of all this if you read the ASOIAF books & would like some insight into the show making, adapting process I recommend it. Maybe buy it second hand though.
