my dad died on november 20th 2024, i’ve been struggling to understand my grief but this really helped me to slowly understand my mom’s grief as a wife. that’s one step closer, either way.

This book was a big hug, punch in the gut, and tearjerker all at the same time. I came in expecting to be spooked but I found myself sad at a lot of the pages, and I feel like I'm now as haunted as the characters are. It's a very interestingly packaged story about sisterhood, folklore, religious trauma, guilt, and class. Whenever you think the story's going this way, it goes the other way and strings you along. The proses are insane, but the back and forth pacing bothered me at first because I often mistake who's who but it gets better as you go. I love stories where estranged siblings only reunite because somebody has died (see: Haunting of Hill House). Overall, I think I will never get over this book.
