Aroma Karsa by Dee Lestari
5.0
Dewi Lestari will forever have a chokehold on me because who else would be able to make me go through with a javanese folklore about a damn flower mythology in which 80% of it has like vivid mentions of smelly stuff??? No one does it like Dee, and no one ever will methinks. This would totally be an awesome netflix series tbh.
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
4.75
There is something so special about this book that I can't quite explain. I don't know how Taylor Jenkins Read managed to make a story about a Hollywood starlet (whom I'm not even close to being) so relatable and gut-wrenching in a personal way. This book reads like a YA and I say that as a compliment in a sense that it reads very fast-paced and light but still knowing its place to still have a lot of substance in it. I came in expecting something flashy and a bit bold and hard to digest since I haven't gotten into reading again this past few years. But this book managed to get me out of my reading slump that I finished it in just less than two days.

But for the most part, I think it's the bisexual representation that I loved. As well as relating to Evelyn's feeling towards being hyper-sexualized because of her chests from way too young of an age. I must say this is my first sapphic-related read and I realize I need to read more of this. I spent so long not knowing who I am that I'm comfortable in books (and a world) where I can mingle with characters that don't remind me of me. Evelyn, in an absurd way, is absolutely me. And I love how I can relate to her. Every character is so well described with their own nuances that they don't feel like mere side characters in Evelyn's story. Even the most insignificant of a character seems like they were specifically made on purpose to be in that part of the book and not many side characters can feel that way. And I love the way Evelyn and Celia's love story was written, I love how imperfect they are and I love how it took them years to finally be together. I love how human they all are.
All in all, I think this will be a re-read later on and is going to my Favorites shelf.
