Seraphina Nova Glass delivers a twisty winter thriller with Nothing Ever Happens Here, a novel that starts strong and keeps the suspense high throughout. The premise is gripping, pulling the reader (or listener, in my case) into a web of secrets and small-town intrigue.

The pacing is fast, and the writing is engaging, making it easy to get caught up in the mystery. I found myself eager to return to the story, finishing the audiobook in just two days. However, as the book progressed, the increasing number of characters and POVs became overwhelming, making it difficult to keep track of the narrative threads. While the twists were well-executed, the big reveal towards the end felt underwhelming, and I believe the story could have wrapped up in a more satisfying way.

Despite these minor drawbacks, Nothing Ever Happens Here is an enjoyable read for fans of psychological thrillers. It’s well-written, atmospheric, and filled with enough suspense to keep you turning the pages. Though not my favorite from the genre, I’d still recommend it to those looking for a solid, fast-paced mystery.

I am typically a huge fan of J.D. Barker’s books, but this one wasn’t my favourite. It didn’t have the same heart racing anticipation or psychological thriller twists as I’ve come to expect. I did enjoy the detective with a bond to a criminal aspect with a touch of romance and found family. I thought it was well written. I liked that there were many characters but found it somewhat predictable.
