I really have to say the environment was set so well I just kept needing to sit down and process it each time I finished reading sections of the story. I remember when I started reading I had recently watched a video essay on youtube by Jacob Geller called something like “the anatomy of a haunted house” that was crazy amazing to me and this book’s environment kept reminding me of what he was saying in that essay so strongly. I just have no words for how much the environment blew me away I love how Jude treats both the house and the forest as their own entities, and the fact that they are.

So, today I sat down and read it all in one sitting(I’ve been still towards the beginning for a while til today). Very much a rollercoaster of emotions and my heart broke for a bit earlier because I looked at the author’s tumblr tag for On Sundays in the middle of still reading and saw someone said
Jude killed Nemoira. It definitely did wear off the shock the decision had but either way it was still an amazing chapter and I can’t stop thinking about it. It made me think of the emotions Hannibal season 2’s ending gave me, but somehow in a wholly different way. It feels like it’s what Jude needs to show to Nemoira, and there is something mutual about it in comparison to Hannibal and Will being on complete unequal standing.

I’ve also been trying to look for more stories with lesbians in it that aren’t very flowery slice of life stories (those can be fun but sometimes u want messy people in messy situations) and this is actually exactly what I’ve been looking for. I’m unsure how the author views Jude and Nemoira’s presentation exactly but god, in my heart Jude is a gnc stone femme and Nemoira is a stone butch.

I have nothing else to say except way too much incoherent thoughts about the novel so instead of rambling on: I cannot wait to see where this author goes with their next books and how they grow as a writer as the years go on! I really want to read their short stories online, as well, now and I’m definitely going to make sure I will.
