Did not finish book. Stopped at 0%.
multiple references to israel and this book was published late 2024?! hello, genocide apologia or at minimum genocide erasure. a pity as I was interested to read about a jewish mythology mixed with sapphic romance/mystery

** spoiler alert **

a beautifully written folklore quest fantasy. I absolutely loved the descriptions of the underwater realm and the countrysides as well as the Fey courts. The writing is beautifully done and the book is tight in plotting and pacing.
*SPOILERS*
I was so mad at Temperance for helping the soldiers that almost killed her and Jenny and then getting on an arrogant high horse about it that I almost DNF'd but I'm glad that I continued to read the book after I cooled off the next day lol. Still, I feel like it was white-feminist kind of behavior to betray one's marginalized friend and I'm still mad.  I had kept reading as I thought it was maybe a characger arc but no, this white feminist behavior continued and was not addressed

loved! really everything about this book is great. the vibe, the politics, the both aesthetic. The creepiness was scary, lots of scenes with ghosts and paranormal activity. most importantly, the discussion around the suffering and genocide of Indigenous people, even through the spiritual realm.

a very cute re-telling of Emma by Jane Austen from a Muslim Pakistani perspective. the romance was wonderful. i didn't like the focus on consumerism and particular clothes labels but other than that enjoyed the read

i really enjoyed this historical supernatural fantasy/romance. the discussion around inequality among classes of society based on Spanish land grants was good. the female MC was a recipient of this but talked alot about loving her land etc altho that land was also stolen by the Spanish and given to her family? that wasn't dealt with although otherwise I was glad to see the discussion of colonialism and land-theft from yanquis. the vampires were cool and scary and i loved the turn that that story took there.
I loved the fated love between the 2 MC and how deep it was

a very cool Fantasy anthology of all Black writers and illustrators. There is a different illustration for each story, which I love and wish other books would do!

Today we are Generals by Tatiana Obey was a charming story and one of my faves, which I won't spoil with details!

some of other my favorite stories were:
To Shape the Night by Tonja K Johnson

The Bane of the Damned by Shelby Rose

The Promised Road by Omari Richards

Keeper of the SPirit Gates by Celeste Hart

it was great to learn of some writers new to me so that I can look up their other work
