This book was essentially a medieval soap opera with a gripping story. I rooted for the downfall of characters and found relief in the success of others. All that being said, this is not a 5 star book as the writer spends way too much time describing the looks of his female characters. There are so many paragraphs explaining that certain female characters are still seen as beautiful despite their sagging (insert body part) and natural aging. He also writes protagonist women (Aliena and Ellen) as strikingly beautiful while writing antagonist women (Regan) as hideous. At times, this book was laughably similar to "menwritingwomen".
